Gaia takes top honour

Gaia Retreat & Spa took top honour in TripAdvisor's 2013 Travellers Choice awards for hotels, coming in at #1 in the Top 25 Small Hotels in Australia and ranking in the Top 25 in three other categories.

The awards, which are in their 11th year, recognise the best properties worldwide across the categories of Top Hotel, Luxury, Bargain, Service, Small Hotels, and B&Bs and Inns.

The results are based on millions of reviews of more than 650,000 hotels and collected in a single year from travellers around the world.

"Once again, TripAdvisor is thrilled to recognise the finest accommodation based on the feedback from those who really matter: their guests," TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing said in a release.

"It's the insights from millions of travellers that make these awards so special, as they help others discover the hotels travellers love most - whatever the budget, in all corners of the world."

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the awards were great accolades for Australia's accommodation providers because they are based on traveller reviews.
